About Lorna

"Music is a big thing in my family. Everyone plays an instrument, some two. It's kind of expected for me to play the violin, but I'd rather just focus on the  band I'm in. It's an all-girl band called The Rag Dolls. We have a blast. It's kind of hard to explain to my Grandparents, who are pretty traditional Jews. I just don't fit into all these expectations and rules. My dream is to travel the world, playing in our band. It's time another girl band hit it big, why not ours?!"
Lorna, the Jewish American Pisces

I count 16 seals
performing
in the dead sea
off Coney Island
I teach them violin
they teach me
to dive
like a lost musician

I swim in baby blue
my curly hair relaxes
underwater   sensitive
to sounds I hear cool
jazz bubbling
through the waves
I listen hard
to the inside voices
at the girl aquarium
the muted tapping
on the glass
I memorize woe
the soprano sax quietly
wails

for dinner
I smoke salmon
then follow the river
to Tea-
neck, I shoot
off the flares
and turn on
all the flood-
lights just before
sundown
